I was recently in New York City, and happened upon Dean and Delucas. Dean and Delucas is a nice gourmet food store, also know as a hoity toity food store. This hoity toity food store has sandwiches, store made breads, rare cheeses, candies and much more.
I always have my eye out for ginger – raw, candied or infused. Dean and Deluca has a nice section of teas, and more importantly ginger infused teas. One of the teas, Kusmi Tea Ginger Lemon Green Tea, caught my eye. I purchased it and brought it home.

I opened the box of tea, and found an interesting cotton based tea bag; the style of tea bag lends to a clean flavor. I brewed a cup (actually on my third cup) and found the Kusmi description to be very accurate “..ginger notes give this blend a delicately spicy flavour that blends beautifully with the tanginess of lemon.”

I highly recommend the tea. Enjoy a cup.
I wanted to not like them. Them, of course, is the Mango Ginger Chews from Gem Gem. The ginger chews are pleasant with a hint of tropical flavor. I found them to be exceptionally good.
As the Gem Gem team states, “At Gem Gem‛s, we think mango and ginger make the perfect blend. We’ve struck the right balance between the mellow sweetness of mango and the refreshing spice of ginger. Made of all-natural ingredients, this is a sumptuous treat your body can count on.” They found the right blend of spice and fruit.
I’d recommend finding some and consuming them.

Recently, I did a bit of hiking in New Hampshire. To celebrate, I went to North Conway for a bit of a celebration. I ran into a new ginger beer – Zeb’s Ginger Beer. Zeb’s is nice and spicy, a bit dry, and a good drink. I’d recommend grabbing a six pack.

There is a place, a place where the heart goes, and goes fondly – Yummies. I can’t recall the first time I went to Yummies, but I have been enough times to know the store very well. Yummies contains wall-to-wall candies, tons and probably metric tons of candies. You can get the same experience through a visit to the Kittery Maine location (one and only).
I did my standard shopping to find my favorites – Pez, Sweedish Fish, Mints and Candied Ginger. Yummies has two flavors of Candied Ginger, I picked the Australian Candied Ginger.
The ginger is firm to the bite, soft to the chew, and has great flavor. I highly recommend it

I do enjoy going into Whole Foods. The walk through the store is an experience akin to being Indiana Jones finding hidden jewels. Finding these hidden jewels is less dangerous, taste better and leave me wanting more. (It’s the snakes and lack of flavor that don’t help the hidden jewels of Dr Jones).
On my walk in Whole Foods, I found a new Ginger Candy, the Ginger Zest from Yum Earth. Yum Earth has an interesting story about two fathers wanting to provide healthy and safe treats to their kids. I picked up one and put it my shopping basket, it was a treat for later.
After purchasing and taking it home, the candies sat on my kitchen counter for a week. I have just opened them, and can tell you they are proper sweet (not too much, not too little) and come with a small fire. The Ginger has a ground spice flavor with a little fire. I wouldn’t say the candies are the best; I wouldn’t say the worst. They are just good, and for the price they might are the right price.

Saturday found me in Portland, Maine walking around the shops and eating the wonderful food found in the Downtown/Waterfront. One place was of particular interest Vena’s Fizz House. A place where the soda junkies can find all the great ingredients to build their Ginger Tinis, Ginger Beers, Ginger Julips or find some inspiration from Vena’s menu.
I picked up some syrup from Liber & Co Fiery Ginger Syrup. I was easily sold on the syrup “For our Fiery Ginger Syrup, we combine fresh yellow ginger juice and pure cane sugar to create a bright and full flavored syrup with a silky texture. This syrup’s high heat lends the perfect burn needed to enhance a wide variety of both classic and novel cocktails” It’s everything I want it to be, at least description wise.
I poured some seltzer water and a shot of the syrup. I mixed. I sipped. I think it’s quite good. Time is the only one that can tell if this syrup holds up, so far, so good.

A few years ago, I ran across Kind bars. The Kind bars are a combination of trail mix and binder combination. I occasionally purchase new combinations that should good. If they peak my interest, I try it out.
Yesterday, I was walking down the aisle in our local store, and I found the Kind Bar – Cashew and Ginger. I purchased one, and went home to try it out. I unwrapped and took a bite. The bite was delicious, the bite was ginger-ry, and had a good chew. I highly recommend the Kind Bar.
Excellent Example of Ginger in every day use.

Part of my trip in Richmond found me in the oft mentioned Chocolate Store and Carytown. I found the Fiji Ginger snack (or to be 100% transparent – my better half found it). The crystallized ginger is SUPERB, it actually might be the best I have ever had. The exterior is firm, the interior light and slightly chewy with a concentrated burst of ginger juice.
Phenomenal… I highly recommend The Ginger People – Crystallized Ginger – Fiji Ginger.
I ran across this brew – Maine Root Ginger Spicy Brew – in Whole Foods. The ginger brew is fiery, and a great cold drink. I would recommend this brew. *** Short post but I thought I would share ***

My Richmond trip’s ginger finds did not end with ginger ale and ginger beer – it only started. My trip around Carytown found me in the store of For the Love of Chocolate. The store is filled from East to West – North to South with candies.
One of the corners of the store is devoted to ginger based candies. I perused the candy options, and found Ginger Extreme. The candies are made by Hillside Candy. Hillside Candy is a thirty year old boutique candy maker that makes Organic Hard Candies which are Gluten free. Hillside is also certified Organic and certified GMO free.
The candies are made with cane sugar, ginger oil, ginger powder, brown rice syrup and cayenne powder. Yes, you read correct – cayenne powder. The flavor is awesome. The hard candy is amazing. I would highly recommend the candies.
